When most people think about food in the South, they think about the normal fare of fried chicken, grits, and butter-filled dishes. The Harrisburg area in North Carolina serves this fare, but visitors can also expect so much more. Some restaurants serve rare and exotic beers and ales; others serve chef-driven dishes filled with flavor and locally sourced seasonal ingredients. The possibilities are endless and exciting, especially if you like food as much as I do.
Here are my favorite restaurants in the Harrisburg area.
The Cellar At Duckworth’s
This American gastropub has the ambiance of a speakeasy (dimmed lights, brick walls, and exposed beams) with a menu that would delight any rule-follower or rule-breaker. Their drink menu is a blend of nationally and internationally microbrewed beers as well as a variety of artfully created cocktails. As for their eats, they source their food from farms in North and South Carolina, and it changes seasonally. One fan favorite is the black grouper served with candied carrots, pesto rice, and artichokes.
Kindred
Located in the heart of downtown Davidson, Kindred serves responsibly sourced American fare with a full cocktail bar. Kindred is the type of restaurant where patrons come to have a drink, order different kinds of gourmet “small plates,†and take in the relaxed ambiance. The dishes they’re known for are their crispy oysters, blue tilefish, duck fat potatoes, hamachi crudo, and squid ink conchiglie (served with shrimp, tarragon, and sea urchin butter). Kindred’s chef is a four-time James Beard award nominee who upholds the restaurant’s high food standards.
Aqua E Vino
Aqua E Vino is the premiere authentic Italian restaurant of Charlotte, NC. Their intimate setting is perfect for a date night or for a nice dinner with friends and family. Their menu consists of high-quality ingredients, locally and globally sourced to create hard-to-forget dishes. Anyone who comes through these doors can expect to enjoy dishes such as Hen of the Woods mushrooms fritti, grilled octopus with artichokes and capers, and warm and creamy cauliflower flan.
Come For A Visit!
Every restaurant listed in this article strives to create an adventurous experience for anyone who dines there. There is always something new to discover and fun to be had. If you happen to be visiting the Harrisburg area, give any one of these restaurants a try. You won’t be disappointed.Â
